TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - E-commerce platform Shopee Indonesia has recorded four billion local product sales through its "Pilih Lokal" channel since 2022.
Shopee Indonesia Deputy Director of Government Relations Balques Manisang stated that this milestone reflects cumulative domestic sales generated through the platform's dedicated local feature.
"Since 2022, four billion products have been sold through the Shopee Pilih Lokal channel," Balques said during the launch of the Local Product Acceleration Program at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Jakarta on Thursday, August 13, 2026, as quoted by news agency Antara.
According to Balques, bolstering local product marketing involves enhancing visibility so items are easier for consumers to discover, while helping sellers broaden their reach both domestically and internationally.
He noted that digital skills training is also being conducted via the Shopee Campus online program, which has engaged micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across 514 regencies and cities in Indonesia through more than 350 training hours and roughly 400 modules.
Local entrepreneurs can also take advantage of the Shopee Export Program and the Shopee Flexi Export Program to tap into international consumer markets.
Balques explained that the Shopee Export Program offers managerial support to merchants, whereas the Shopee Flexi Export Program provides enterprises with flexibility to tailor their commercial strategies.
Speaking at the same event, Trade Minister Budi Santoso noted that digitalization has become an inevitable part of developing trade patterns. "Today, we cannot avoid digitalization in retail," Budi said.
According to Budi, online channels offer an alternative for entrepreneurs because opening a physical store requires higher capital, including for business premises and labor.
However, he emphasized that physical commerce remains vital because buyers still value the hands-on experience of inspecting products directly.
Budi thus observed that many merchants are adopting a hybrid model by merging online and offline channels. "Offline commerce still exists, and most sellers are using a hybrid approach," the Trade Minister added.
