Trump Leaves Beijing, Calls China Visit 'Tremendous Success'

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump left Beijing on Friday afternoon, May 15, local time, ending what he called a "tremendous success" of a visit to China.

“A lot of things have happened that you’ll be hearing about them, but that was a tremendous success. I think it really was an historic moment,” Trump told reporters before entering the White House after his return trip from Beijing, as quoted from Anadolu.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi saw Trump off at the airport.

Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping and United States President Donald Trump held a private meeting at the Zhongnanhai leadership complex in downtown Beijing.

The meeting took place before Trump concluded his state visit to China and a day after the two leaders held formal talks.

Upon Trump's arrival at Zhongnanhai, Xi warmly welcomed him. The two heads of state walked together and chatted, occasionally stopping to admire the trees and flowers in the garden.

Describing Trump's visit as historic and a landmark one, Xi stated that both sides have established a new vision for building a constructive and strategically stable China-US relationship.

"We had reached important common understandings on maintaining stable economic and trade ties, expanding practical cooperation in various fields, and properly addressing each other's concerns," Xi said.

Meanwhile, Trump said the US and China reached “great trade deals” during the visit, while praising what he described as their “great relationships.”

Trump said the two sides had reached a series of important mutual understandings, signed several agreements, and resolved many issues, which were of great benefit to both countries and the world.

Calling Xi a longtime friend, Trump said he had great respect for him and that they had developed a good relationship. "The US-China relationship is very important, and it will definitely get better and better," Trump said.
