US-Israel Conflict with Iran Expected to Last Until October

2 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran will continue until October, according to Binus University International Relations Expert Dinna Prapto Raharja.

The impact of this conflict is spreading further in the Middle East, with Israel attacking Lebanon. "In my opinion, looking at Israel's power map, (the war) will continue until October... until the next Israeli election," Dinna said on Wednesday, as quoted by ANTARA.

According to her, Israel will continue to launch military attacks against the Lebanese militant group, Hezbollah, which is Iran's ally in pressuring Tel Aviv and Washington's interests. "Israel wants to burn Beirut to the ground as a symbol of the fall of Lebanon," said Dinna.

Meanwhile, Dinna said that it would be difficult to reach an agreement through peace negotiations between the U.S. and Iran mediated by Pakistan, because the warring parties "have not reached the point of saturation to seek methods other than military intervention."

Dinna highlighted the deadlock in the negotiations, as each party failed to comply with the other's demands for a peace agreement. "Iran doesn't think it's that weak, while America underestimates Iran's strength. The U.S. is also running low on ammunition due to the 100-day war and the inability to resupply its weapons," she said.

The international relations practitioner Synergy Policies also believes that Iran will not stop its nuclear program, as demanded by the U.S.

"Nuclear negotiations have been the longest and most difficult. In fact, with Israel becoming increasingly aggressive in Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries, Iran is becoming increasingly unwilling to give up its nuclear program," he said.

On the other hand, the U.S. has still frozen billions of dollars of Iranian assets in various countries and imposed sanctions on Tehran. In fact, Iran demands the release of these assets as a primary condition for resolving the conflict.

The two countries are also still at odds over the Strait of Hormuz—a strategic shipping lane through which 20 percent of the world's oil supply passes—triggering a global energy crisis.

"I think the situation is still deadlocked at the negotiating table. So the process will take a long time," said Dinna.

"It's difficult, a (peace) agreement is still a long way off," she added.
