TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts an increased potential for heavy to very heavy rain clouds in several regions on Thursday, June 11, 2026, due to the formation of areas of wind speed slowdown or convergence.
BMKG forecaster Nazmi Nariyah, as quoted by ANTARA on Thursday, reported that most of the major cities must increase their preparedness, including the regions of North Sumatra, West Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Maluku.
Due to this convergence and confluence, the atmospheric conditions are considered to increase the potential growth of rain clouds in these regions.
Nazmi stated that the convergence area was observed stretching from West Sumatra, Jambi, South Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, to Papua.
Meanwhile, the area of wind convergence or confluence is expected to form in the Andaman Sea, the Malacca Strait, the South China Sea, the Sulu Sea, and the northern Pacific Ocean near Papua.
For the weather forecast in major cities in western Indonesia, BMKG projected the potential for rain accompanied by lightning to hit the cities of Tanjung Pinang, Pontianak, and Banjarmasin.
Meanwhile, for Medan, Pangkal Pinang, Palangka Raya, Samarinda, and Tanjung Selor, light rain is expected, while the DKI Jakarta, Banda Aceh, Serang, Bandung, and Surabaya regions have the potential for overcast skies.
And in eastern Indonesia, heavy rainfall is predicted to pour in Mamuju City, lightning in Ternate, moderate rain in Ambon, and light rain in several other major cities, including Denpasar, Makassar, and Jayapura.
