TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – News of Yasinta Moiwend’s planned visit to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on the morning of Friday, May 29, 2026, immediately stirred concern within the Merauke Solidarity Advocacy Team. The public-interest lawyers who make up the advocacy team had already suspected that Yasinta would file a police report over the documentary Pesta Babi: Kolonialisme di Zaman Kita (Pig Feast: Colonialism in Our Time). What they could not predict was which law the Malind indigenous activist would invoke.
Tigor Hutapea, a member of the advocacy team, said the group had mapped out several possible laws and legal provisions Yasinta might use. They initially believed she would rely on Indonesia’s Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law after reviewing a testimonial video of Yasinta that circulated on Saturday, May 23, 2026. In the video, Yasinta expressed disappointment with the Pesta Babi production team for allegedly displaying her identity without permission. “We didn’t know which article Mama Yasinta would use,” Tigor said in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 3.
The advocacy team actually has a relationship with Yasinta. Its members have represented her and several other Malind indigenous community members in an environmental lawsuit before the Jayapura Administrative Court in Papua. The plaintiffs are challenging the construction of a 135-kilometer road intended to support a national strategic project (PSN). Court proceedings in the case have been underway since March 2026.
Yasinta ultimately filed a police report against Pesta Babi Director Dandhy Dwi Laksono and Johnny Teddy Wakum, Director of the Merauke branch of the Papua Legal Aid Institute. Accompanied by attorney T.S. Hamonangan Daulay, Yasinta filed the complaint under Law No. 27/2022 on Personal Data Protection. “They screened the film without my permission,” Yasinta said after submitting the report.
