TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) is preparing two implementing regulations to support the establishment of the Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange (BMKS). In accordance with President Prabowo's directive, the exchange is targeted to commence operations on January 1, 2027.

OJK Board of Commissioners Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi stated that the regulations consist of an OJK Regulation (POJK) regarding the phased transition of strategic mineral and commodity trading and another regarding the operation of the exchange itself. "As mentioned earlier in the President's state address, these OJK regulations are to be finalized no later than September 17, 2026," she said during a press conference on the Financial Note and the 2027 Draft State Budget at the Directorate General of Taxes office in Jakarta on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Friderica noted that, pursuant to Law Number 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (UU P2SK), these regulations require approval from the House of Representatives (DPR). Meanwhile, the specific types of minerals and strategic commodities to be included in the BMKS will be stipulated in a Presidential Regulation.

According to Friderica, the BMKS is expected to serve as a commodity price benchmark and deepen the domestic market. She observed that while Indonesia is a leading global producer of strategic commodities, "price discovery and benchmark pricing have not existed domestically until now."

Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani added that the establishment of the BMKS would complement PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI), as both entities aim to bring transparency to strategic commodity transactions.

Rosan stated that the BMKS would function as a spot market for strategic commodities. "Naturally, the hope is that this mineral exchange will improve transaction transparency, thereby enhancing accountability, transparency, and governance," he said.
