TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has urged the Jakarta Metropolitan Police not to cease the investigation into the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, the Deputy Coordinator of KontraS (Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence).
Saurlin P. Siagian, the Commissioner for Monitoring and Investigation at Komnas HAM, emphasized that although the case has been referred to the Indonesian Military Police Center (Puspom TNI), the police still have the authority to continue the legal process.
"We hope for a comprehensive and transparent investigation to be continuously conducted by the police, not limited to the designation of four suspects," said Saurlin during a press conference at the Komnas HAM office on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
Previously, during a joint meeting with the House of Representatives Commission III on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the Jakarta Metro Police stated that the case had been transferred to the military. However, the Director of General Crime Investigation at the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, did not provide detailed information on when the transfer of the case files was carried out.
This transfer has sparked criticism from civil society. The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) expressed disappointment that a case threatening civilians' lives was transferred to a military institution.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute Foundation (YLBHI), Muhammad Isnur, believes that the police should not halt the investigation only at the field perpetrators. Based on the initial findings of an independent civilian investigation team, at least 16 individuals are suspected to be involved in the attack on Andrie Yunus on March 12, 2026.
"(The police) have not revealed at all who gave the orders, the intellectual actors, who funded it, and how this operation was carried out," said Isnur.
He also deemed the transfer of the case to Puspom TNI as incorrect and legally flawed due to the lack of clear regulatory basis, including the absence of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
According to the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the police should continue the investigation and transfer the case files to the prosecutor's office through a letter of instruction to commence the investigation.
"The prosecutor's office will examine it, and then decide whether this case falls under the category of connectivity or not," he added.
On the other hand, the Jakarta Metro Police stated that they no longer have the authority to handle the case after it was transferred to Puspom TNI.
"We affirm that the case files have been transferred, and the investigative authority of the Jakarta Metro Police has reached its limit," said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Wednesday.
