TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Palestinian Minister of Heritage and Tourism Hani Al-Hayek stressed the importance of national efforts to monitor and protect archaeological and historical sites in Palestine, especially those directly threatened by Israeli occupation and Zionist settler terror.

As ANTARA reported, Al-Hayek conveyed this on Saturday, August 8, while reviewing historical and archaeological sites in the cities of Al-Karmel, Yatta, and Beit 'Amra in Hebron Governorate, Palestine.

The review was carried out on the archaeological sites of Qasr Al-Karmil, Qisarya, Khirbet Umm Al-Amad, and Khirbet Beit 'Amra, where he studied the conditions and needs of each site.

Al-Hayek also discussed efforts to preserve and develop the site, utilizing its archaeological and historical assets.

On that occasion, Al-Hayek stressed the importance of showcasing these historical sites on the Palestinian tourism map and protecting them from the various threats they face.

Al-Hayek explained that Palestine has many unique archaeological sites which are an integral part of its history and national identity.

He also emphasized his ministry's commitment to partnering with local authorities and community leaders to protect and develop these sites with existing resources.

In addition, Al-Hayek stated that his party would contribute to their rehabilitation and make them visitor-friendly tourist destinations that can attract the interest of the community and tourists.

Making Palestinian archaeological sites vibrant tourist destinations can not only boost tourism and stimulate local economic growth, but also help protect and preserve them by strengthening the presence of local communities and increasing national attention to their protection, he said.
