Prabowo Pledges to Tackle Waste Issue by 2029

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto claimed that he will tackle the waste issue in the country before his term ends, in two to three years.

Prabowo stressed that waste management has now become a national priority. "In two to three years, we must control all the waste in Indonesia," he said during his visit to the Environment and Education-Based Final Disposal Site (TPST BLE) in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

During his visit, Prabowo hailed the Banyumas government for the integrated waste management breakthrough, adding that other regions could implement similar schemes.

Prabowo was impressed by the waste distribution and processing system in Banyumas. The regency also produces plastic ore, paving blocks, and even roof tiles from processed plastic waste at the TPST BLE Banyumas.

Prabowo stated that the waste processing technology in Banyumas is not highly advanced, but effective. "The waste management uses technology that is not too sophisticated but effective, mostly local products, and is part of a system from households to the regency," he said.

According to Prabowo, the system is quite effective and has the potential to serve as a model for various regions in Indonesia, even attracting attention from other countries. "So, I think this is very effective as a model for many provinces, many regencies, and even some countries that are interested in coming here," said the retired general.

Prabowo also promised to provide direct support from the central government to strengthen and expand the waste management system in Banyumas. He claims to support the Banyumas Regency Government's target to achieve zero waste by 2028.
