TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto's recent state visits to Japan and South Korea resulted in total investment commitments of Rp574 trillion, revealed Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
Airlangga stated that this figure is highly significant. "Because Indonesia, amid uncertain geopolitical situations, continues to attract investors from both Japan and Korea," he said while providing an update from Seoul, South Korea, as quoted via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on April 2, 2026.
The former industry minister disclosed a series of investment commitments stemming from the visits. First, from South Korea, a Memorandum of Understanding worth US$10.2 billion, or Rp173 trillion, has been signed. The targeted investment sectors include energy and green transition, solar power, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and renewable energy.
There are also commitments in industry and manufacturing, such as steel, batteries, transit, and eco-friendly transportation. Additionally, the digital and AI sectors, property, and infrastructure were included in the agreements.
Meanwhile, the government's visit to Japan resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding worth US$23.6 billion, or Rp401 trillion. The investment sectors spanned energy and energy transition, oil and gas—specifically the Masela project—industry and downstream processing, as well as finance and financial inclusion. The creative industry and manufacturing were also highlighted.
"This means the President's visit to these two countries has led to investment commitments of Rp574 trillion," Airlangga stated.
Japan currently ranks third in investment and trade with Indonesia, while South Korea ranks seventh. According to Airlangga, both countries are hopeful that with the existence of Sovereign Wealth Funds like Danantara, Indonesia can also engage in strategic co-investment partnerships.
Airlangga Hartarto accompanied Prabowo Subianto throughout the official visit to Japan, which began on Sunday, March 29, 2026, before the delegation continued to Seoul, South Korea.
