TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia and Belarus signed seven bilateral cooperation agreements across a range of sectors during Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's state visit to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, July 2.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President Lukashenko following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said Prabowo and Lukashenko discussed and agreed on several strategic measures to strengthen bilateral relations.
"During the bilateral meeting, the two heads of state discussed and agreed on a number of strategic steps to strengthen the relationship between Indonesia and Belarus," Teddy said in a written statement.
The seven agreements signed during Lukashenko's visit are as follows:
Roadmap for Strengthening Indonesia-Belarus Cooperation 2026-2030, which will serve as the framework for bilateral cooperation over the next five years.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Industrial Cooperation between Indonesia's Ministry of Industry and Belarus' Ministry of Industry.
MoUs on cooperation in culture, financial affairs, and health between the relevant authorities of the two countries.
A Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement between Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to strengthen collaboration in research and innovation.
An MoU between Indonesia's Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) and Belarus' Department of Financial Monitoring under the State Control Committee on cooperation and intelligence sharing to prevent money laundering, terrorism financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
An MoU on National Accreditation, signed by Indonesia's National Accreditation Committee (KAN), to strengthen cooperation in accreditation.
A commitment to strengthen economic cooperation through the implementation of the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia-EAEU FTA).
In a joint press statement following the bilateral meeting, Prabowo said Lukashenko's visit reflected the growing friendship between Indonesia and Belarus.
According to Teddy, Prabowo also expressed appreciation for Lukashenko's visit, noting that it was the Belarusian leader's first trip to Indonesia in more than 13 years.
Teddy said Belarus is one of Indonesia's strategic trading partners in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Once the Indonesia-EAEU Free Trade Agreement is ratified, around 90 percent of Indonesian products will gain duty-free access to the Belarusian market.
The government expects the agreement to expand trade and investment between Indonesia and EAEU member states, including Belarus.
