TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been named Europe's top goalscorer, earning the European Golden Shoe for the second time in his career.
The England captain secured the award ahead of Manchester City forward Erling Haaland and World Cup Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappe.
According to FC Bayern Munich's official website, the award ceremony took place at the FC Bayern Museum inside the Allianz Arena before more than 60 invited guests. Italian World Cup winner and former Bayern striker Luca Toni delivered the tribute to Kane during the event.
"Every striker is proud of how you have taken our game to a new level," Toni said during his address, describing Kane as the "premium version of a striker."
Toni highlighted Kane's ability to create chances beyond the penalty area. He added that future generations of forwards will be measured against his standards.
FC Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen seconded those sentiments, noting that Kane has continuously elevated his game. Dreesen commended the striker's exceptional quality, skill, and character, emphasizing his impact on the team.
The ceremony was attended by key Bayern leadership, including president Herbert Hainer, board member for sport Max Eberl, sporting director Christoph Freund, head coach Vincent Kompany, and honorary president Uli Hoeneß. Video messages were also shared by football figures such as Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand, Jürgen Klinsmann, Robert Lewandowski, and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
With this award, Kane becomes the third player in Bayern history to win the Golden Shoe twice, joining Gerd Müller and Robert Lewandowski. Overall, only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have won the award more often.
In statements shared by the club, Kane called the past campaign the best season of his career and expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaching staff, and family.
"I try to help the team as best I can," Kane said, pointing out that head coach Vincent Kompany grants him the freedom to drop deep and build up play. He also praised the attack-minded nature of the Bundesliga, calling it an ideal environment for strikers.
Looking ahead, Kane expressed a desire to keep refining his game while focusing on upcoming matches. "There's always something to work on," he said, adding that his attention has already turned to the upcoming Supercup.
