TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto outlined four principles guiding his administration as he opened his state address at the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and a joint session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) in Jakarta on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Prabowo said the principles had guided his government during his first 21 months in office as he sought to fulfill his campaign pledges and his oath of office.
“First, we work to uphold and implement the mandates of the Constitution, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo said in his speech at the Parliament Complex.
The second principle, he said, was protecting Indonesia's core national interests, including managing the country's natural wealth to ensure it benefits the public.
“Second, we work to safeguard, uphold and protect vital core national interests. This includes managing Indonesia's wealth as well as possible so that it can be fully utilized for the prosperity of all Indonesians,” he said.
Third, Prabowo said his government was focused on addressing people's difficulties as quickly as possible.
“Fourth, in our work, we are always oriented toward the interests of the people, as well as the interests of their children and grandchildren,” he said.
Prabowo acknowledged that after 21 months in office, not all of his promises to the public had been fulfilled and many of the country's problems remained unresolved.
He nevertheless said his administration had begun addressing several complex national issues in less than two years.
A total of 629 of the MPR's 732 members attended the annual session. The MPR comprises members of both the DPR and DPD.
The annual session and joint parliamentary session are part of events commemorating Indonesia's 81st Independence Day.
MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani opened the proceedings, followed by remarks from DPD Speaker Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin before Prabowo delivered his state address.
The session was attended by former President Joko Widodo, former Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla, Boediono and Ma'ruf Amin, as well as Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Members of Prabowo's Red-and-White Cabinet, state institution leaders, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and several political party leaders were also present.
