TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is set to deliver two state addresses before parliament on Friday, August 14, 2026. He will attend the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, to address the joint assembly.
The President will deliver his initial speech during the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR). This first address will outline the performance reports of state institutions while serving as the official state address commemorating the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence.
In his second speech, Prabowo will address the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) to formally present the 2027 Draft State Budget (RAPBN) alongside its financial notes. The Gerindra Party leader is expected to deliver an introductory address detailing the budget draft prepared by his administration.
House Speaker Puan Maharani noted that the annual session traditionally takes place on August 16, the eve of Independence Day. However, she pointed out that August 16 falls on a weekend this year. Therefore, in accordance with parliamentary procedure rules, the annual session was moved up to this Friday, marking the final workday ahead of August 17.
Puan assured that DPR lawmakers would observe today's annual session with solemnity. She added that the House is mindful of last year's session, when lawmakers faced widespread public criticism for dancing in the chamber following the presidential address.
"We will all certainly be more introspective, more solemn, and better composed so we can focus fully on attending this state event," Puan said on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The annual session at the Senayan complex are scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). During the opening segment, encompassing the MPR Annual Session and the DPR Joint Session, MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani and Regional Representative Council (DPD) Speaker Sultan Najamuddin will deliver opening remarks prior to President Prabowo's address.
The morning segment is expected to wrap up around 11:00 a.m. WIB. Proceedings will then pause for Friday prayers before resuming for the afternoon session at approximately 2:30 p.m. WIB.
Opening the afternoon DPR plenary session for the 2026–2027 legislative year, Speaker Puan Maharani will deliver her opening remarks. Following Puan's address, President Prabowo will take the floor once more to submit the outline of the 2027 RAPBN and its financial note to lawmakers.
The day's events will conclude at approximately 4:00 p.m. WIB with the formal signing of the session minutes.
