TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has assured that the government remains committed to the availability and affordability of fuel and gas in Indonesia by maintaining a grip on the 2026 State Budget (APBN) deficit.
According to the Minister, the stability of fuel and gas prices, including those subsidized within the budget, remains under control as it has been thoroughly calculated by the government. "We are not doing this arbitrarily; everything has been thoroughly calculated," Purbaya stated in Jakarta on Friday, March 27, 2026.
He emphasized that these projections are not based on favorable assumptions for any specific party, including President Prabowo Subianto.
Purbaya recounted that when global oil prices briefly touched US$100 per barrel, President Prabowo questioned Indonesia's fiscal health, given that the 2026 State Budget macro assumptions had set the reference price at a more modest US$70 per barrel.
In response to the President's query, Purbaya explained that he directly presented fiscal capacity data demonstrating Indonesia's ability to dampen global fluctuations. He noted that despite high oil prices throughout the fiscal year, Indonesia has successfully withstood the pressure, keeping the deficit well below the 3 percent of GDP limit mandated by the State Finance Law.
Purbaya underscored that the government never panicked in the face of such volatility, opting instead for a measured approach that avoids reliance on unquantifiable figures.
He concluded by stating that the government ensures all policies are rooted in a disciplined quantitative approach, thereby upholding the credibility of the State Budget and overall fiscal discipline.
