TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A month has passed since the Molotov bomb explosions at Sungai Raya State Junior High School 3, in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan. The alleged perpetrator, identified as R, a ninth-grade student. He is now attending classes at a rehabilitation facility run by the Regional Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAID) of Kubu Raya Regency.
In early March 2026, the teen in conflict with the law had also taken his school examinations. "We ensure that the student's rights are not taken away," said Diah Savitri, Chair of the Kubu Raya Regency KPAID, when speaking with Tempo on Monday, March 2, 2026.
R is suspected of masterminding explosions that occurred at four locations in his school on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 10:40am local time. The blasts came from detonators attached to improvised devices he had brought to school. The explosions triggered panic among students, who were immediately sent home. One student reportedly suffered injuries. West Kalimantan Regional Police moved quickly, accompanied by the National Police's Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) counterterrorism unit.
Densus 88 spokesperson, Sr. Comr. Mayndra Eka Wardhana, said investigators found evidence believed to belong to R. The items included five portable gas canisters attached to firecrackers, nails, and a knife. Police also discovered six bottles filled with fuel, each equipped with a cloth wick, or Molotov bombs.
