TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko visited Indonesia for the second time in 13 years on July 1, 2026. Lukashenko was in Jakarta on July 1-2, 2026.

Upon landing at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Aleksandr was welcomed by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. The son of the Belarusian President, Dmitry Lukashenko, also welcomed his father. Dmitry Lukashenko arrived in Jakarta earlier and had a meeting with Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

This visit is a reciprocal one, as President Prabowo Subianto previously visited Minsk, the capital of Belarus, on July 15, 2025. Prabowo visited President Lukashenko's residence in Ozyorny, located outside the capital of Minsk.

Their meeting last year lasted for almost three hours. President Prabowo was the second head of state to visit President Lukashenko's renovated residence, after Russian President Vladimir Putin. "After this house was restored, you are the second guest after President Putin. Previously, even before the renovation, President Xi Jinping also visited here with his family," Lukashenko said while welcoming President Prabowo.

So, what are the facts about Lukashenko's visit to Indonesia yesterday?

1. Stay at the State Palace

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko stayed at the State Palace in Jakarta. Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that the plan to stay at the Presidential Palace was Lukashenko's wish. He said that the Indonesian government fulfilled this request as a form of respect for the President.

Other heads of state, Sugiono said, usually prefer to stay in hotels. "He wanted to (stay overnight) at the Palace this time," Sugiono said at the Palace on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

According to Sugiono, Lukashenko was initially planned to stay at the National House within the Presidential Palace complex. However, President Prabowo Subianto requested a place to stay at the State Palace for President Lukashenko. "Originally at the National House, but the President considered the State Palace more representative," said the Secretary General of Gerindra Party.

2. Gifted a Pen to Prabowo

Lukashenko gave a pen to Prabowo. The moment occurred when Lukashenko signed the state guest book in the credentials room on Thursday, July 2, 2026. After signing the guest book, the pen used to write was given directly to Prabowo.

Prabowo seemed a little surprised, then accepted it and placed the black pen decorated with gold in his suit pocket. Then, as a symbol of Indonesia and Belarus's friendship, the two leaders shook hands and took a photo together. After introducing their delegations to each other, the two leaders signed the guest book and took a photo together.

3. Indonesia Will Open an Embassy in Belarus

Aleksandr Lukashenko welcomed Indonesia's plan to open an embassy and a direct flight route to Belarus. Lukashenko expressed his appreciation to Prabowo after their meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Lukashenko and Prabowo gave a joint press statement after the meeting. "I am grateful to the President for the plan to open the Indonesian embassy," Lukashenko said at the Merdeka Palace.

Currently, Indonesia's representative in Belarus is still combined with Russia. Indonesia has the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Moscow, which also serves as the Indonesian government's representative to the Republic of Belarus.

Lukashenko also appreciated that Prabowo was open to establishing a direct flight route from Indonesia to Belarus. "The people of Belarus are very interested in visiting Indonesia," he said.

He stated that the Belarusian government pays great attention to the tourism sector. Lukashenko is also open to discussing cooperation on visa waivers between Belarus and Indonesia.

"I would also like to thank the President for the support in developing the people-to-people relationship between the two countries, including discussions on visa-free facilities and the opening of air connectivity in the future," he said.

According to Lukashenko, Belarus views Indonesia as not only an economic partner but also a very interesting tourist destination. "We hope that the people of Belarus will find it easier to visit Indonesia, and vice versa, the people of Indonesia can find it easier to visit Belarus," said the man who has been President of Belarus since 1994.

On the same occasion, Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Lukashenko's visit to Jakarta. "I believe this momentum will further strengthen the Indonesia-Belarus partnership and open up broader opportunities for cooperation," said the Gerindra Party Chair.

4. Agree on Bilateral Cooperation 2026-2030

President Prabowo Subianto and President Aleksandr Lukashenko launched the Road Map for Bilateral Cooperation between Indonesia and Belarus for 2026-2030. The document was announced after the meeting of the two leaders at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Prabowo said the road map would serve as a framework for the development of the two countries' relationship over the next five years. "This road map reflects a joint commitment to more targeted and concrete cooperation," said Prabowo in a joint press conference with Lukashenko at the Palace.

According to Prabowo, Indonesia and Belarus will strengthen their cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture and industry, as well as social and cultural areas. In the food security sector, the two countries agreed to expand cooperation in fertilizer, agricultural tools and technology, and heavy machinery.

"Indonesia and Belarus have complementary potentials to strengthen cooperation in modern agriculture, fertilizer, agricultural tools and technology, as well as heavy machinery," he said.

In the economic sector, both countries will also expand partnerships that support each country's national development agenda. The focus includes industrial development, agricultural modernization, supply chain strengthening, and technology cooperation.

Prabowo also appreciated Belarus for ratifying the free trade agreement between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union. Indonesia is also in the process of ratifying the free market agreement that includes Indonesia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

In the industrial sector, both countries see opportunities to increase investment and establish joint ventures, especially in the manufacturing, automotive, heavy vehicle, and agro-industry sectors. Additionally, cooperation will be expanded to include the social, cultural, and human resource development sectors. This will be achieved through cultural exchanges, partnerships with educational institutions, and vocational training programs.

Prabowo said the Indonesian and Belarusian delegations also agreed on several cooperation documents in the fields of health, culture, national accreditation, financial transaction reporting, industry, science and technology, and financial services.
