TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Gamkonora vessel, shipping 450,000 barrels of crude oil from the Menzel Lejmat (MLN) Block 405a in Algeria, has docked in Cilacap, Central Java, on June 24, 2026. The President Director of PT Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), Syamsu Yudha, mentioned that the tanker had traveled for 41 days from Port Arzew, Algeria, departing on May 14, 2026.
"This shipment strengthens Pertamina's position as an internationally competitive oil and gas company, while fulfilling the mandate to support national energy resilience through superior and sustainable operations," he said in a written statement on Friday, June 26, 2026.
The Block 405a oil and gas working area in Algeria is operated by the Pertamina subsidiary, Pertamina Internasional EP, which is part of a 25-year contract extension with the Algerian national oil company (Sonatrach).
Syamsu mentioned that this shipment is the second one this year after the first shipment of 1 million barrels arriving at the end of January. Following the second shipment, PIEP plans to send a third shipment departing in August and arriving in September 2026.
PIEP Relations Manager Dhaneswari Retnowardhani explained that the crude oil shipment from Algeria aims to ensure that oil and gas production from overseas assets is directly beneficial to Indonesia. The management is committed to supporting stable and secure national energy resilience through strong operational planning and synergy.
"In line with this, PIEP is optimizing the economic value of global production through leveraging international market opportunities and managing value-added portfolios," Dhaneswari stated.
