TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian National Police has coordinated with the Brunei National Police in a case of assault in Blok M, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, involving two foreign nationals from Brunei.
The case is being handled by the Jakarta Metro Police. The Head of the Mobile Detective Sub-directorate of Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Resa Fiardi Marabessy, stated that they are currently in the process of fulfilling the prosecutor's file instructions. "In addition, we are also communicating police-to-police between the Indonesian National Police and the Brunei National Police," he told reporters on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Resa mentioned that there is still a possibility that the suspect will be tried in Indonesia. However, there is no certainty about this. "Both possibilities are still open, and the final decision awaits coordination with the relevant parties," he said.
The police have arrested a Brunei foreign national, identified as MIA, 33 years old, for alleged assault. MIA, a celebrity, is suspected of assaulting another Brunei foreign national identified as MHF, 30 years old, to death.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the Melawai area of Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered severe injuries to the back of the head.
The victim was initially treated at Pertamina Central Hospital before being declared dead on Saturday, May 16, 2026. "The team has arrested one suspect in connection with the alleged criminal act of assault resulting in the victim's death," said Resa in a written statement on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Resa stated that the police arrested the suspect MIA in the South Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta, on Monday, May 25, 2026. Prior to the arrest, the police had conducted a crime scene investigation, examined several witnesses, and analyzed CCTV recordings in the area to identify the perpetrator.
In this case, the police have confiscated several pieces of evidence such as the suspect's clothing and shoes worn during the incident, as well as CCTV recordings at the location. The police took the suspect MIA for questioning at the General Crime Detective Directorate of Jakarta Metro Police.
"For his actions, the suspect will be charged under Article 466 paragraph 3 and/or Article 468 paragraph 2 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, related to assault resulting in death," he said.
