TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesian muay tai athlete Elijah William Hinzman made history by winning a silver medal at the 2026 IFMA Muay thai World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

"Elijah William Hinzman's success in winning a silver medal at the 2026 IFMA World Championships is historic for muay thai in Indonesia," said Marciano Norman, Chair of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), as quoted in an official statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

At the championship, which took place from June 16-26, Elijah made history by winning a silver medal, marking Indonesia's best achievement in the history of participation in the prestigious IFMA World Championships.

Marciano explained that Elijah's progress to the final round and near-world championship was clear evidence of the immense potential of Indonesia's muay tai sport.

The mixed-race Indonesian-Thai athlete put on a brilliant performance, with all of his wins coming via technical knockout (TKO). Elijah advanced through the preliminary rounds, defeating opponents from Malaysia, then defeated Russian and Finnish fighters in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

Marciano praised Elijah's brilliant performance, defeating tough opponents from various countries.

"This extraordinary achievement on the world stage is a source of great pride for the entire Indonesian nation," he said.

Marciano continued, "This achievement proves that the athlete development program implemented by the Indonesian Muaythai Executive Board (PB MI), led by La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, is on the right track.

The East Java MI Provincial Board, led by Baso Juherman, along with the coaching team, and everyone behind the scenes have worked hard to hone Elijah's talent so that he can compete fiercely with the world's best fighters.

Marciano hopes that this historic momentum can be maintained and that Elijah's success will motivate other Muaythai athletes to continue working hard, improving their discipline, and preparing for future international competitions to raise the Indonesian flag on the world stage."
