TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Students from a number of universities and campus organizations are staging a protest at the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday, June 19, 2026. In response, the police are closing the road and diverting traffic at Jalan Gatot Subroto in front of the parliament complex.
The road has been closed since 4:00 p.m. local time.
The Director of Traffic at the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner General Komarudin, urges the public to find alternative routes to avoid the protest at the DPR building.
"From Cawang heading to Slipi, you may use the Benhil road through the Semanggi overpass," said Komarudin when confirmed on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Komarudin mentioned that vehicles intending to pass in front of the DPR Building are redirected through Gerbang Pemuda. "They can pass through TVRI and use the route towards Patal Senayan heading to Permata Hijau," said Komarudin.
Student protesters from several campuses have been flocking to the protest site since 3:30 p.m. local time. The protesters consist of the Islamic Student Association (HMI) members, students of Mercu Buana University, Esa Unggul University, and Trisakti University.
The students are protesting the government's flagship free nutritious meal program. Protesters also urge the government to evaluate the implementation of the Red and White Village Cooperative (KDMP) program as well as to stabilize fuel prices to maintain people's purchasing power.
