TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following Norway’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, striker Erling Haaland returned home to Oslo with an unusual travel companion that has the internet buzzing. The 25-year-old forward was seen stepping off the plane after Norway's quarterfinal defeat to England, holding a taxidermied raccoon clutching a whiskey bottle in one hand and a designer bag in the other.
The unusual souvenir was purchased during Haaland's post-tournament travels in the United States. According to Vogue, the striker picked up the US$750 taxidermied creature at Wild Bill’s Western Store, a 40-year-old family-owned business in Dallas, Texas.
While there, Haaland also bought cowboy boots, a hat, a belt buckle, and a T-shirt reading, “Y’all Can Kiss My Dallas.” Business Insider reported that the store has since embraced the publicity, featuring Haaland on its homepage and even launching international shipping to accommodate a sudden influx of orders from Norwegian fans, while the original whiskey-drinking raccoon is now marked as sold out with "inventory on the way."
The Texan souvenir stood in stark contrast to the footballer’s luxury wardrobe. Vogue highlighted that Haaland carried his belongings in an ecru canvas Dolce & Gabbana Sicily tote bag featuring burgundy alligator accents, an exclusive piece that only recently debuted on the runway at the spring 2027 menswear show in Milan.
The Manchester City player has been leaning into the joke. He shared a photo of the raccoon on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, "It followed me home."
Previously, Haaland uploaded photos of his new cowboy gear with a simple "Howdy!". He also asked his followers to vote on a name for the raccoon. The naming options included Cowboy, Ranger, TEX, and R.O.W. (Raccoon On Wheels), with the latter quickly becoming the early favorite among voting fans.
