TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, instructed the fuel price for fishermen or fishery entrepreneurs who own ships with a size of 30 to 200 gross tons (GT) to be set at Rp15,000 per liter.
Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed this after attending a limited meeting with President Prabowo and several economic ministers at Prabowo's private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Airlangga explained that the President gave the instructions after observing the development of fuel prices used by fishermen. "The President's directive, because we see that the B50 price specifically for fishermen under 30 GT has been set at Rp6,800, then the non-subsidized fuel prices jumped to Rp21,300 yesterday," said Airlangga, quoted from the Government of Indonesia's Public Communication Agency statement on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Therefore, the government decided to provide a specific price for fishermen who have ships with a capacity of 30 GT to 200 GT. "These fishermen entrepreneurs need to be given a special price, it was discussed that the agreed price is Rp15,000 per liter. Then, the non-subsidized fuel prices based on the average domestic solar production costs are set at Rp18,600," he said.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will soon issue regulations related to this policy. Airlangga explained that the subsidy of around Rp3,600 per liter will be financed using the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) funds.
Thus, this policy does not burden the state revenue and expenditure budget (APBN). "Therefore, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (Bahlil Lahadalia) will issue regulations regarding the subsidy. The subsidy amount is approximately Rp3,600 per liter and will be financed by BPDP," said Airlangga.
In addition, the government also set a quota for the special fuel distribution for the next six months. "For this policy, a quota of 400,000 tons is also provided for the next six months," said Airlangga.
On the same occasion, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia claimed that this policy is a form of certainty provided by the government to business actors in the fisheries sector to be able to carry out their business with more affordable operational costs. "Indeed, the prices are very high now. With a price of Rp15,000, it is expected to help the operations of fishermen who have ships sized 30 GT and above," said Bahlil.
Bahlil also ensured that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will immediately follow up on the President's instructions through the issuance of a decree. Meanwhile, to ensure its targeted distribution, he will coordinate with Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in determining distribution points. "So that the government's good intentions to help fishermen are not abused. This is what we will guard to ensure that the implementation runs smoothly, and of course, all based on the President's directives and orders," said Bahlil.
