TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has met with the leaders of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to discuss preventive measures against corruption related to the management of the free nutritious meal program.
The visit by the BGN leaders was conducted with the KPK's Monitoring and Prevention Directorate on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the meeting was also intended to convey the results of a study on and recommendations for President Prabowo Subianto's flagship free meal program.
Tempo observed three BGN leaders visiting the KPK office: BGN chief Nanik Sudaryati Deyang and two deputy chairs of BGN Agustina Arumsari and Major General TNI Trenggono. They arrived at the KPK's Red and White building in South Jakarta at 10:35 a.m. local time.
Nanik did not elaborate on the purpose of the BGN leaders' visit to the KPK office. "Collaboration," Nanik said briefly as she entered the KPK lobby.
Previously, KPK stated that MBG regulations did not meet applicable standards, especially local supervision and planning.
"The scale of the program and its budget have not been balanced with adequate regulatory frameworks, management, and supervision mechanisms," as cited from the KPK's 2025 Annual Report on Friday, April 17, 2026.
According to KPK, the lackluster regulations have raised various risks in MBG implementation, including accountability, conflicts of interest, inefficiency, and indications of corruption practices.
Additionally, government assistance for MBG has also triggered various risks, including a lengthy bureaucratic chain, potential rent-seeking, and reduced budget allocation due to operational cost and rent cuts.
The anti-corruption agency also noted the centralistic approach taken by BGN which is feared to sideline the role of regional governments and weaken the check and balances mechanisms in free nutritious meal program implementation.
"The high risk for conflicts of interest in determining SPPG (public kitchen) partners due to centralized authority and unclear standard operating procedures," as stated in the report.
Additionally, KPK highlighted the suboptimal food safety supervision, with minimal involvement from the country's Food and Drug Monitoring Agency and health offices in the program implementation.
KPK believes that the MBG program does not have short-term or long-term success indicators. Furthermore, the program's implementation has not measured the nutritional status and academic achievements of the beneficiaries.
