TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Jakarta Phase 1B, stretching from Velodrome to Manggarai, has reached 95 percent completion. He aims for the transit system to be officially inaugurated later this year.
"Progress has already reached 95 percent, and we hope it can be inaugurated by the President in August," Pramono said during a site inspection of the new LRT Jakarta route at Rawamangun Station in East Jakarta on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Pramono noted that the LRT Jakarta project is a policy altering the face of the capital. He explained that, until now, road corridors connecting the northern region to the city center have grappled with extraordinary traffic congestion.
By connecting Kelapa Gading directly to Manggarai, Pramono hopes the LRT expansion will ease traffic gridlock across the Jakarta area.
The 12.2-kilometer LRT Jakarta Phase 1B line spans 11 stations. These include Pegangsaan Dua, Boulevard Utara Summarecon Mall, Boulevard Selatan, Pulomas, Equestrian, Velodrome, Rawamangun, Pramuka, Kayu Manis, Matraman, and Manggarai.
Pramono stated that the total expenditure to complete the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT project reached Rp11.5 trillion, with project management handled by city-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo.
Furthermore, Pramono estimated that daily ridership on the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route could reach 80,000 passengers once fully operational. Therefore, he hopes public transit in Jakarta will become much more comfortable. "Thus, connectivity within Jakarta will become even better," he said.
