TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Health will bring in doctors from Belarus to train medical personnel in Indonesia. Both countries agreed upon the plan during a bilateral meeting between Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono and the Health Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Aliaksandr Khajayeu at the Prof. Dr. dr. Mahar Mardjono National Brain Center Hospital, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Dante stated that Indonesia and Belarus will cooperate in developing medical education and the pharmaceutical sector. In the field of education, Indonesia is exploring a fellowship program designed to improve the skills of doctors specializing in several areas.
"We will send a delegation to Belarus to evaluate the programs there, as well as bring doctors from Belarus to Indonesia to provide training to our doctors," Dante said as quoted from the Ministry of Health's website on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
According to Dante, the training program will focus on the treatment of heart disease, cancer, neurology and stroke, urology, nephrology, as well as maternal and child health. He believes that Belarus has experiences that can complement the development of Indonesia's healthcare system.
Furthermore, the two countries, which have had bilateral relations for 33 years, will also collaborate in the pharmaceutical sector. The Indonesian government is opening opportunities for collaboration between Belarusian pharmaceutical company, Belpharmprom, and domestic manufacturing industries to expand access and distribution of medical devices and pharmaceutical products.
"Tomorrow morning, pharmaceutical companies from Indonesia will have a meeting with their counterparts. The Ministry of Health fully supports this development and will facilitate coordination with pharmaceutical companies from Belarus," Dante said.
Meanwhile, Belarus Health Minister Aliaksandr Khajayeu stated that Indonesia and Belarus have many similarities in regulating the use of generic drugs. He mentioned that these similarities could speed up the implementation of the joint program.
"Regarding the areas of cooperation, this is a very good meeting. There are no significant differences in our standards, especially for generic drugs. We are ready to welcome specialists directly to expedite the existing process," Aliaksandr said.
In a follow-up to the agreement, the Ministry of Health stated that it drafted the 2026-2030 Operational Road Map to serve as a practical tool for implementing the high-level agreement. This roadmap is designed to ensure that various programs, including expert exchanges, medical education, and pharmaceutical collaboration, can be implemented in a measured manner and provide benefits to the healthcare systems of both countries.
