TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Roy Soemirat, attended the final tribute ceremony and joint prayers for the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on Saturday, July 4, 2026, local time. Roy's presence represented the Indonesian Government in the official tribute procession organized by the Iranian Government.
The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, stated that Indonesia attended the procession after receiving an official invitation from the Iranian Government.
"The Indonesian Government expresses its utmost appreciation for the invitation from the Iranian Government to attend the series of tribute events for the late Ayatollah Khamenei," Yvonne said in a written statement on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
She added, "In connection with this, the Indonesian Government has conveyed that Indonesia will be represented by the Indonesian Ambassador in Tehran."
According to Yvonne, on July 2, 2026, the Iranian Government informed all diplomatic representatives in the country that the official tribute ceremony would be attended by high officials from the central government. Iran also expressed appreciation for the Indonesian Government's decision to appoint the Indonesian Ambassador in Tehran as the official representative of Indonesia.
Yvonne stated that Roy had attended the tribute ceremony and joint prayers for Khamenei, whose body was laid at the Grand Mosalla, Tehran, on Saturday morning local time.
Based on official information from the Iranian Government, the series of tributes to Khamenei took place from July 3 to July 9, 2026, in various cities in Iran and Iraq. Khamenei's body is scheduled to be buried in Mashhad on July 9.
Procession Attended by Officials and Foreign Guests
Al Jazeera reported that Khamenei's body was laid in the grand hall of the Grand Mosalla, Tehran, and became the site of tribute from high officials of Iran and honorable guests from various countries. The procession marked the beginning of a week-long series of funeral ceremonies.
On Friday, July 3, Khamenei's casket was carried by mourners wearing black attire in the Grand Mosalla complex, draped in the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iranian state television also broadcasted President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and several state officials paying their final respects.
Several world leaders also attended the six-day commemoration. After the public ceremony in Tehran on Saturday, the procession will continue to several holy cities in Iran and Iraq before the burial in Mashhad.
